Become an ODSUA Umpire

Interested in becoming an umpire with ODSUA?
Working as an umpire for adult, slow pitch softball is one of the most rewarding part-time jobs you can have. Not only are you out on the field, close to one of the most fun recreational activities offered, but you’re also getting some exercise and being paid well to do it. You’ll make new friends by joining the fraternity of sports officials that make up ODSUA. Speaking of that fraternity, our Association is one of the most decorated groups of sports officials for slow pitch softball in the country. If you’re interested in learning from and working with the best in slow pitch softball, you’ve come to the right place.

What can I expect?
First, you can expect a fun time learning about the game of softball (things you didn’t know AND things you thought you knew…) and making new friends in the process. Second, when you complete one of the best training programs available, you will be fully prepared to step on the field for your first assignment feeling completely confident and comfortable managing the game. You can expect to be involved with some great slow pitch softball here in Northern Virginia as well as opportunities to work national tournaments throughout the country. All of this, and YOU GET PAID!! Our rates are competitive with any of the recreational leagues in the Northern Virginia area.

How do I get started?
The first step is to go through our comprehensive training program. It’s through both classroom instruction and live drills on the softball field that we’ll prepare you for almost everything you’re going to see and be responsible for during a game, including those rules and situations you only thought you knew well. This includes a deep knowledge of the rules of softball as well as the mechanics of managing a game.
